Sunshine Coast Fishing Reports

QFM August 2012

I wasn’t ready to give up on the South East Queensland light tackle season until after May but unfortunately with no May bite it has officially been a very quiet light tackle season.  The only highlight was the Little Ships Ground bite off the Sunshine Coast.  Our next hope on the light tackle front will be an August/September bite on big blacks and stripers at the 18 or 21miles off the Sunshine Coast,  a sailfish bite at any time, most likely in August, September or October at the 8 or 18miles and Chardons Reef or stripers and blacks off the Gold Coast at Spot X or the NE50s or Deep Tempest off Cape Moreton.  Bait could turn up at any time and with it are

QFM May 2012

The strong winds have been the biggest talking point of this fishing year.  Luckily most tournaments have been held on their original dates, a couple on fall back dates, but I don’t think anyone has ended up with two or three days of perfect weather and crews have put up with some average conditions.  In between times there has been weeks on end when no-one has been able to get out.  Interestingly it is not cyclones and tropical lows keeping us in port, it is prolonged periods of South Easterly winds around the frustrating 15-25knot mark making it just a bit too uncomfortable to put to sea.   On the Gold Coast the blue marlin continue to be very consistent with boats seeing up to

QFM January 2012

Finally we have a bit of consistent fishing action to report on.  On the blue marlin front they are being seen by most boats on most days both off the Gold Coast and also off Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.  A few boats have been lucky enough to get multiples.  Watch Ya Problem and Ymer a couple of Black Watch boats from the Sunshine Coast have done just that and Lucky Strike a Gold Coast Black Watch and Barco a Caribbean from down there have also had good days.  Boats like Murphys Law from the Surfers Paradise club have had their chances but are just not converting.   The good news is a couple of blacks were tagged over the course of the Mooloolaba Tournament

QFM December 2011

There is still not a lot going on light tackle wise in South East Queensland for gamefishers.  Sporadically there has been blue marlin action on the shelf, more so for Gold Coast boats but there was no spring showing of sailfish off Mooloolaba.  Cairns however has been fishing extremely well, both for numbers and size of big blacks and there has been some reasonable weather instead of howling South East trade winds for months solid.   Boats getting in on the action down at the Gold Coast included Chad Holmes’ 24’ Hunstman Addixion, Vince’s 35’ Caribbean Barco, the 35’ Carolina Classic Larva and the SPGSFC trailerboats Murphys Law, Trophy, Seapace, Gods Hands and Ramjet.  Mixed in with the blue marlin have been some good yellowfin
